North Sydney Girls High School

The Schools Promise program is entirely student run at North Sydney Girls. The student organising group faced the challenge of raising awareness among the school body. The group devised a novel way of getting the program off the ground: Mahboba Week. For each day of the week, students organised an activity. For example, on one day they laid out a banner for students to paint. This banner has now been sent to the sister school in Panshir Valley, creating an enduring link between the two schools.

The school also raised funds through food stalls and sale of helium balloons, and has now raised close to $3000 to contribute towards the employment of a female teacher for Panshir Valley school.

Another important element of the awareness campaign was Mahboba herself. Mahboba spoke at an assembly early on, ensuring that students understood the purpose of her organization and the importance of the Schools Promise program.
