Kambala girls celebrate Harmony Day, March 2010

Kambala strives to develop young women of courage and integrity who will be empowered to make a positive contribution to a changing world. Through Schools Promise, the Kambala Charity Committee have embarked on a program to inform the wider community about the plight of women and children in Afghanistan, and in turn make a contribution to our global community. The girls at Kambala have been particularly drawn to Mahboba’s Promise as a charity focus because of its relevance to girls and young women just like them, across the globe.

The Schools Promise program was launched with a Harmony Day awareness-raising assembly and mufti day fundraiser. Schools Promise Chair, Mrs Kristine Needham, spoke passionately to the girls and staff about the wonderful work of Mahboba and her team.

As part of Harmony Day, the Charity Committee encouraged all staff and students to wear orange in support of harmony and acceptance around the world. The Charity Committee also baked an abundance of goodies to sell across the Senior and Junior schools as a fundraising initiative.

A Fashion Parade Fundraiser is planned for later in the year, in aid of a number of organisations supporting women in our local, national and global communities.
