Caringbah High

The 2006 Captains of Caringbah High first became aware of the work of Mahboba’s Promise at a leadership conference in State Parliament House. At this conference, they were greatly moved by an inspiring speech from Mahboba Rawi concerning her organisation – ultimately leading Caringbah Interact, an autonomous student-led fundraising body within Caringbah High, to resolve to raise the funds necessary to support Mahboba’s Promise and its mission to provide humanitarian relief to Afghani orphans and widows.

Interact’s fundraising efforts commenced with the March 2006 “Harmony Day”, where Caringbah students held a concert during an extended lunch hour and entry donations were used to support Mahboba’s Promise. Younger Interact students also created thousands of chains of tiny, newspaper men, which were then sold and used to decorate Caringbah’s hall – creating a visual representation of the concept of ‘harmony’.

Other than raising the funds necessary to support Afghani children, it is also the school’s aim to establish a personal and long-term relationship with the schools they are supporting (Abdara Boys and Girls Schools of Panjshir Valley), through such means as letters and photos. Caringbah’s students have stated that this aim is particularly important to them as it will enable them to relate with people that have grown up in circumstances different to their own.
