Afghan orphans need your help
During the last three decades, thousands of Afghans have been killed as a result of war, thousands of them have been disabled, millions of them have been left homeless and more than one million children orphaned or separated from their parents. Psychologically traumatized, these children face a devastating situation of hunger and disease. Moreover, natural disasters like floods, earthquakes and drought make the situation worse for children in Afghanistan.
According to UNICEF, there are 1.6 million orphans in Afghanistan alone. Images of these orphans easily come to mind; tiny malnourished bodies covered with tattered clothes, most of them have no shoes, but many still have hope for a better life. They have lost their parents, some of them have lost every thread of family connection – sometimes nobody even knows their date of birth. These children are unprotected and vulnerable. As the result of protracted wars, many children have suffered disability, displacement and abandonment by their family.
Mahboba Rawi, founder of Mahboba’s Promise, is devoted to helping orphans who need food, clothes, educational support and medical care. She understands the anguish of being an orphan and has tried hard to change their destiny since 1998 with limited financial support. Now, the ‘Hope House concept’ is being established to accommodate hundreds more orphans and widows. Mahboba has vowed to protect these orphans, seeing them as the future of Afghanistan. Her constant efforts continue be supported by generous sponsors and donors.
Fatima, 11 years old, is one girl desperately seeking a sponsor. "My father passed away 7 years ago. After that our uncle took the responsibility of us. Our uncle was a cruel person and he did not allow us to go to school. Our uncle did send his children to school but he avoided sending us to school. After 3 years I decided to go to school. I went but after a year again my uncle stopped me from going to school. Our life condition is very bad. My uncle does not let me eat lunch with his kids, and I cannot express my feeling which I have about my uncle family. Please accept me into Hope House."
Likewise, Hasibullah, a 12 year old boy, had witnessed an appalling act, which until this day still scars him. In his own words he said, “My father was killed by my uncle 15 years ago because we had land in our village. My uncle wanted to change his land with us. My father and my uncle had a fight with each other and my father and 3 of my brothers were killed by my uncle. After that my uncle took my mother and me with himself and always he tortures us. Our life condition is too bad at the moment and we do not know how to rescue our self. Please support me and accept me in the Hope House in order to continue my life”.
