A Day At Hope House
A Day At Hope House

Hello my name is Soahalla.

My father and older brother were shot dead one night by some village people who entered our house.  A few years later my mother also died of malaria.
My brother Esmatullah and I stayed with my uncle but he mistreated us and when we heard about Hope House we came there and they took us in.

This is me when I arrived, I feel like a different person.
I have been at Hope House eight months now and am very happy.

Children of Afghanistan
Most of the kids from Hope House come from very bad situations.  Afghanistan has suffered from many wars and most of the people are still suffering, from grief and poverty.

Some of us were rescued from a refugee tent city, others came from the streets

Some of us were injured by land mines.

A lot of children have to work full time instead of going to school.

A House of Hope

This is Hope House

And these are Hope House children welcoming you

This is Sidiq, Mahboba's brother, he runs Hope House and is sort of like a father to us.

This is Mahboba, founder of Mahboba's Promise, she comes to visit us every year.

And brings joy to the orphans

The Garden

Hope House has a beautiful garden,

Here are some of the kids from Hope House in the garden.

We are very proud of our beautiful garden, the surrounding area is dry and barren but inside our walls there are flowers and trees and vegetables!  Here are some Hope House boys enjoying the roses.

And here I am!

This is Sidiq picking vegetables in the garden.
We grow a lot of our own food.

Here some girls are planting a special tree - everyone who comes to Hope House plants a tree - it is an important symbol for us.

BRRRRRR!
If you wonder why we're so excited by the garden its because winter looks like this

A Typical Day

After morning prayers, it's breakfast time.

Then its off to school.  We study at a community school. We study hard so that one day we can support ourselves and our families with good employment and also so that we can become good leaders in our country.

We return to Hope House and say our before lunch prayers  - we go outside on nice days and then we cook and eat outside too!

After lunch we do extra learning activities - like computers.

Art and Music

Taekwondo!

We practise Taekwondo every day and win prizes in the local championships. At the Beijing Olympics Afghanistan won its first ever MEDAL and it was for TAEKWONDO!  Maybe one day I'll be winning an olympic medal!

Outings!

On Special occassions we go on outings and picnics.

Playtime!

Sometimes we just play with our friends.  We have all lost close family members so we look out for each other and are very close.

Time for Homework

Before the prayers at sundown we wash.

Then we make our prayers

Dinner is delicious!

I enjoy a bedtime story!

GOODNIGHT!!

We are so grateful for the support we get from Australia.

With the help of people like you Mahboba can keep helping people like us.

In the end it's all about LOVE!!
